What is a morkie?

A Morkie is a small dog breed that is a cross between a Maltese and a Yorkshire Terrier. Because they are a mixed breed, their appearance and temperament can vary.

  • Appearance: Morkies typically weigh between 4 and 8 pounds and stand 6 to 8 inches tall. Their coat can be long and silky like a Maltese or shorter and wirier like a Yorkshire Terrier. Common coat colors include black, white, brown, tan, and a combination of these.

  • Temperament: They are known for being affectionate, playful, and energetic. Morkies are generally good with children and other pets, but early socialization is important. They can be prone to barking.

  • Grooming: Regular grooming is essential to prevent matting and tangles, especially if they have a longer coat. Daily brushing and occasional professional grooming are recommended.

  • Health: Like all breeds, Morkies are prone to certain health issues. Common health concerns include tracheal collapse, hypoglycemia, and dental problems.

  • Exercise: Morkies have moderate energy levels. Daily walks and playtime are important to keep them physically and mentally stimulated.
